 Youth
Media
trains students from OUSDs Youth Leadership Program to
develop their ideas, write scripts and produce their own live,
talk
show about issues important to them. With support from professional
graphic artists, editors and student trainers,
students also learn to shoot and edit their segments. Students
create a program that is entertaining and that informs the community
about
events and activities at Oakland area high schools.
Youth Leaders who have participated in the program feel strongly
about changing the negative outlook that people have about Oakland
Public
Schools.
Dispelling
rumors
and changing the stereotypes that students have about each other
is another goal. They also successfully bring unity and pride
to the students and encourage more parent, community, business
and
student
involvement.
Students
have reported from Oakland Public High Schools about good things
and
things that need improvement. Other students have recognized and
honored their favorite teachers. Films produced by OPS students
have also been
featured on the program.
Disrespect, the effect of music videos on teen behavior and the
latest fashion trend of grilled teeth have been just a few of
the topics
discussed. A studio audience and callers at home participate in
the conversation. Everyone is invited to Holla Back and
the phones ring off the hook!
