2004 - Spring
The Urban Dreams Video Project sent filmmakers
into Oakland Public High School classrooms at Oakland
Tech, Skyline High, and Castlemont High to mentor teachers
and students during the production of videos about human
or civil rights and/or social justice. The results of
their hard work are socially conscious video projects
that focus on issues important to Oakland youth. In
addition to being streamed on the web, these award-winning
videos have screened at festivals, been broadcast on
KDOL TV

2003 - Fall
In fall 2003, four student teams worked with a Youth
Media Filmmaker/Mentor and an English or History teacher
to produce a 3-5 minute video about social justice,
human rights, and/or civil rights. In addition to being
streamed on the web, videos were shown on KDOL
TV and disseminated on CD-ROM. To learn more about

2003 - Spring
In spring 2003, teachers, five of their students and
a Youth Media Filmmaker/Mentor worked with an English
or History class to produce a 3-5 minute video about
Social Justice, Human and/or civil Rights. In addition
to being streamed on the web, videos were shown on KDOL

2002
In spring 2002, teachers, students and filmmakers collaborated
on a total of 9 videos. Two of these videos won iCademy
Awards, at the Microcomputers in Education Conference
sponsored by Apple Computer! CONGRATULATIONS to Linda
Halpren and her students at Castlemont High School,
who took the Blue Ribbon Award for The Music, The
Message and to Larry Felson's students at Oakland
High School who won an honorable mention for The
